January 18th: Treasures of the Library—a contemporary look at rare books
How can journals and photos from a near-disastrous 1875-76 arctic expedition help us understand the effects of climate change in the Far North?
Join Professor Luke Copland as he presents the works of English explorer Sir George Strong Nares, who visited Ellesmere Island at the end of the 19th century. Comparing these findings to the recent breakup of the Ellesmere Ice Shelves, Professor Copland will paint a vivid picture of how a changing climate is permanently affecting Canada’s geography and borders.
