The University of Ottawa’s Women’s Health Research Day will take place on March 20, 2012, from 10am-1pm in Lounge 140, 90 University. Women’s Health Research Day provides women’s health researchers and their students with an opportunity to network, discuss research, exchange information, and even have fun, so please mark your calendars and plan to attend!
This year’s theme is “Visioning Women’s Health” and will include a feature presentation by Tracey Prentice, PhD Candidate, Population Health and Doris Peltier, Women’s Leadership Coordinator & Advocate for Aboriginal Persons Living with HIV/AIDS, Canadian Aboriginal AIDS Network. Their presentation “Visioning Health: Positive Aboriginal Women’s Perceptions of Health, Culture and Gender” focuses on using arts-based methods (painting, photography, drum-making) to give expression to women’s well-being.
An annual feature of this event is the Student Poster Competition. Students are encouraged to submit posters based on the work they have been doing pertaining to Women’s Health Research. There is a grand prize of $500 and two runner-up prizes of $250 each. To help students prepare their submissions, we have once again organized a free poster preparation workshop for students interested in entering the Women’s Health Research Day poster competition. The workshop will be held March the 5th from 11:00am to 14:00pm in Desmarais, Room 3105. Pre-registration is required.
