The Right Honorable Michaëlle Jean has been appointed grand témoin de la Francophonie for the London 2012 Olympic Games by the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF). The uOttawa chancellor will attend the Games in August to ensure that French, which, with English, is an official language of the Olympic Movement, is used correctly during all Olympic events, and to co-ordinate the activities of the international francophone community at the Games.

While in London, Ms. Jean will visit francophone athletes, the French translators provided by OIF to the London organizing committee for the Olympic Games, the press centre, the broadcasting centre and some of the francophone countries’ Olympic Houses. She will also meet with the chairs of the organizing committees for the next Winter and Summer Olympic Games.

The 2012 London Summer Olympic Games will run from July 27 to August 12.
